X. Web Accessibility Policy
Revista Biomédica is committed to the social and ethical goal of eliminating digital barriers to accessing scientific knowledge. We continuously strive to ensure that our publishing platform and all published content are accessible and inclusive for the entire academic community and society at large.
Revista Biomédica adopts and is committed to progressively complying with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), with the aim of achieving an AA level of conformance. This ensures that the website is:
- Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presented in a way that users can perceive.
- Operable: Interface components and navigation must be usable on different devices.
- Understandable: Information and user interface operations must be clear and easy to understand.
- Robust: Content must be compatible enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of browsers and assistive technologies (such as screen readers).
The OJS publishing platform implements the following technical accessibility improvements:
- Screen reader compatibility: The source code uses semantic HTML tags and ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes so that users can navigate with standard screen readers.
- Navigation: The website is designed to function entirely with the keyboard and mouse.
- Responsive design: The interface automatically adapts to different screen sizes (desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones), maintaining functionality and readability.
- Appropriate color contrast: The contrast ratio between text and background is carefully considered to facilitate reading for people with low vision or color blindness.
To ensure that scientific output is accessible, the journal establishes the following guidelines for manuscripts in their final publication formats (PDF, HTML):
- Text in images: All graphics, photographs, diagrams, and illustrations included in articles must have a brief and precise textual description (alternative text).
- Accessible PDF Documents: The PDF files of the articles are processed to include structural tags, a proper reading order, selectable text (without scanned images), and complete metadata.
- Structured Data Tables: Complex tables should be designed with clearly identified row and column headings in the code, avoiding their use as purely aesthetic elements.
When preparing their accepted manuscripts for final publication, authors will be asked to:
- Provide detailed descriptions of all figures.
- Avoid using color as the sole means of conveying relevant information in graphs or maps (for example, differentiate lines only by color, without resorting to different patterns or symbols).
Web accessibility is a process of continuous improvement. If you experience any difficulty accessing the content of our journal, or wish to report an accessibility issue, you can contact the technical and editorial team:
